Business Internet Connectivity
Fast, reliable internet for your business — from cost-effective broadband to dedicated fibre leased lines
Internet That Works as Hard as You Do
Every modern business depends on a solid internet connection. Whether your team relies on cloud applications, VoIP telephony, video conferencing or large file transfers, a slow or unreliable connection costs you time and money. At Direct IT, we provide business internet solutions across Wiltshire and beyond, tailored to match your operational requirements and your budget.
We are not tied to a single carrier. Instead, we work with multiple Tier 1 and Tier 2 network providers to source the best available connectivity at your location. That means we can compare options from Openreach, CityFibre, Virgin Media Business and specialist fibre providers to find the fastest, most cost-effective solution for your premises.

Broadband Options
SoGEA Broadband
SoGEA (Single Order Generic Ethernet Access) is the modern replacement for traditional phone-line-based broadband. Unlike older FTTC connections that required an underlying analogue telephone line, SoGEA delivers broadband over the Openreach network without any voice line — saving you the cost of line rental you may no longer need.
If you are already using VoIP for your phone calls, SoGEA is the natural choice: you get the same speeds as FTTC (up to 80Mbps download) without paying for a phone line you do not use. For multi-site businesses, dropping line rental across several locations adds up to significant savings. SoGEA is also the future-ready option as the UK completes the PSTN switch-off by January 2027.
FTTC Business Broadband
Fibre to the Cabinet (FTTC) uses fibre-optic cable from the telephone exchange to the green street cabinet, then copper cable for the final connection to your premises. FTTC delivers download speeds of up to 80Mbps, making it a solid option for small offices and businesses with moderate bandwidth needs. As Openreach phases out copper voice lines, FTTC is being replaced by SoGEA — but the underlying broadband technology and speeds remain the same.
FTTP Broadband
Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) is full-fibre broadband with no copper involved at any point. Fibre-optic cable runs directly from the exchange to your business, delivering ultrafast download speeds of up to 1Gbps and upload speeds of up to 50Mbps.
FTTP offers the highest reliability of any broadband product, with lower latency and no distance-related speed degradation. As Openreach and alternative networks like CityFibre continue to roll out full-fibre coverage, FTTP is becoming the standard for business broadband. Both SoGEA and FTTP connections include a static IP address as standard, with business broadband starting from just £32 per month.
Ethernet & Leased Lines
Ethernet First Mile (EFM)
EFM connections bridge the gap between standard broadband and full fibre leased lines. By bonding multiple copper pairs, EFM delivers symmetrical upload and download speeds with improved reliability compared to broadband. It is particularly well suited to businesses that need consistent upload performance for cloud backups, VoIP call quality or hosting on-premises servers.
Note: as the UK’s copper network retires by January 2027, EFM availability is shrinking — we can advise on FTTP or GEA-based Ethernet alternatives for your location.
Dedicated Fibre Leased Lines
When your business cannot afford any compromise on speed or reliability, a dedicated fibre leased line is the answer. Unlike broadband, a leased line provides a private, uncontended connection between your premises and the carrier network. The bandwidth you pay for is exclusively yours, with no slowdowns during peak hours.
We offer several leased line options depending on your requirements:
- EoFTTC (Ethernet over FTTC) — uses existing cabinet infrastructure to deliver guaranteed symmetrical speeds up to 20Mbps with best-effort downstream boost up to 80Mbps. A cost-effective step up from standard broadband with SLA-backed performance.
- GEA (Generic Ethernet Access) — delivered over the Openreach FTTP network, providing dedicated Ethernet bandwidth without the cost of a full EAD circuit. Available where FTTP infrastructure exists.
- EAD (Ethernet Access Direct) — the premium option. A dedicated fibre circuit from your premises to the carrier network, offering symmetrical speeds from 100Mbps up to 10Gbps with the highest SLA guarantees.
Leased lines start from £360 per month for a 1Gb connection, making enterprise-grade connectivity more accessible than many businesses expect.
Supporting Your Connection
Preparing for the PSTN Switch-Off
The UK’s traditional analogue telephone network (PSTN) is being permanently switched off by January 2027. Every business currently using a phone line — whether for voice calls, broadband, alarm systems or payment terminals — will need to migrate to a digital service. If you are still on a traditional FTTC connection with a voice line, now is the time to move to SoGEA or FTTP. We help businesses plan and execute this transition smoothly, ensuring no disruption to your connectivity or dependent services.
Failover and Resilience
Downtime is not an option for most businesses. We design resilient connectivity solutions that keep you online even when your primary connection fails. Options include secondary broadband lines, 4G and 5G cellular failover, and dual-carrier leased line configurations. Our managed routers handle automatic failover switching so your team stays productive without lifting a finger.
Managed Routers and Firewalls
We supply, configure and maintain business-grade routers and firewalls as part of our connectivity service. Every device is monitored around the clock, with firmware updates and security patches applied proactively. Our managed firewall service includes intrusion prevention, content filtering and VPN configuration, giving you enterprise-level network security without the need for in-house expertise.
SLA-Backed Uptime and Proactive Monitoring
All of our business internet services come with clear service level agreements covering availability, fault response times and resolution targets. We continuously monitor bandwidth utilisation, latency and packet loss across every connection we manage. Monthly reporting gives you full visibility of your connection performance, helping you plan for future capacity needs as your business grows.
